For publishing new issue "No Words Necessary", DUMB released the T-shirt collaborated with New York-based designer Mario Hugo and French brand Klute.

Mario Hugo is a New York based artist and designer. He has worked with clients that include Nike, Dolce & Gabbana, British Airways, EMI Music, MTV, and Channel 4. He has been featured in a number of publications including Flaunt, Dazed and Confused, Varoom, and Phaidon’s Area2, where he was featured as “One of the 100 most creative designers to have emerged on the international scene over the past 5 years”.

From contemporary art to fashion and design, a range of talented and international artists have contributed to this new issue of the
independent art book, hailing from Tokyo.
2 years since its last appearance, DUMB maintains its approach of only images and no text.

Mario Hugo

New York based artist, designer and co-founder of Hugo & Marie. He has worked with clients that include Nike, Dolce & Gabbana, British Airways, EMI Music, MTV, and Channel 4. Roger Ballen

Born in New York City in 1950, Roger Ballen has lived and worked in Johannesburg, South Africa for almost 30 years. He has produced many series of works which has evolved from photo-journalism to a unique artistic vision since 1982. Ballen’s work has been shown in important institutions throughout the world and is represented in many Museum Collections such as Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, France; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, England and Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA.

SMAL PAZE

SMAL (Mirko Borsche) and PAZE (Thomas Kartsolis) are graphic designer based in Munich Germany.
Their work is responsible for visual output of Gomma Records, Jetzt Magazine, Zeit Magazin, Amore Magazine.
Mirko Borsche found own design company Bureau Mirko Borsche in 2007.

Thomas Lelu

Born in Paris. lives and works in Paris.
He is a contemporary artist and writer. And he is also known as the art director of Playboy France.

Viviane Sassen

1972 born in Amsterdam.
Hers carer started as a fashion photographer in 90's. Hers work appears in magazines such as French VOGUE, Purple, i-D and POP magazine. In 2001 Sassen began regular trips to Africa, where she had lived as a child.
Hers solo show at FOAM Amsterdam, at James Dazinger New York, Forma in Milan and the Brighton Biennale 2010.

Mothi Limbu is a Marseille-based artist, art director, graphic designer, illustrator.
He is a co-founder of creative studio HappyMess. He mainly works for Marseille influential company Kulte, La dame Noir and Underten.
This time he designed DUMB cover from his series "Paradox and Incorrect way".

Roger Ballen

American photographer Roger Ballen has been living and photographing in South Africa since the late 1970s. His photographs have caused international controversy and debate ever since his book, "Platteland", was published in the 1990s. "Platteland" was filled with raw, direct, disturbing photographs of poor white people in South Africa whose lives had been marginalized by the Apartheid government.

Since that "bombshell" of a photobook hit the scene, Ballen's work has slowly evolved to become much more abstract and introspective (but no less disturbing). His education in psychology, and his background as a working geologist, have informed his work as much as his early childhood exposure to the work of the great Magnum photographers.

Mario Hugo’s imagery has an innate modern beauty. Comfortable to blur the lines between the disciplines his work draws on the traditions of formal drawing, the structures of abstract graphic form and the intricacies of computer generated typography. In terms of aesthetic Hugo’s resultant visual universe is rich and diverse, the approaches brought together through a distinctive personal touch, intellectual pursuit and ethereal vision.
An artisan for the digital age, Hugo effortlessly traverses the tactile and digital work space but interestingly he identifies himself more amongst the last of an old generation of analogue practitioners than with the those raised in the computer age. In the first of an ongoing series of slideshows about artists’ personal work and process FADER contributor Hugo talks to us about romance, ritual, influence, inspiration and the cyclical undercurrents of his work.

Viviane Sassen

She was born in Amsterdam in 1972 and studied fashion design followed by photography in Holland. From an early collaboration with Martine Stig, Sassen has gone on to forge a solo career with the recent application of her work to the fashion pages of the world’s best magazines to winning campaigns and also to producing personal work to high critical acclaim.

Her book 'Flamboya' (pub. Contrasto) is a truly beautiful book and has resulted in a solo show at FOAM, Amsterdam along with her first show in New York in March 2010 at James Dazinger, Forma in Milan and the Brighton Biennale in October 2010.

Flamboya is an object of such beauty that it’s almost completely sold out and we’re hoping for a reprint later in the year. Made up of her work in Africa it is a very intuitive, poetic journey through representations, symbolic somehow not portraits but more subconscious emblems or totems to a world deeply embedded in culture, tradition & superstition. It never fails to have an impact on the viewer.

Not surprisingly her work has appealed to a wide cross section of luminaries from the industry from stylists to creative directors from David James who commissioned her as a newcomer for Miu Miu, to the latest commission for Stella McCartney/Adidas she has an ability to deliver images of such beauty that just please, time and time again.

Although her preference is to shoot on location, she is also very comfortable working in a studio where she concentrates on bringing elements of the natural environment to play inside, working with light reflection, texture and atmosphere to render a supreme vision of what it is to be alive.
